About our Church Services
What to expect
What can you expect when you attend our church?
Spiritualist churches offer its visitors unique, powerful, thought provoking, and
touching services.
Below is a brief explanation of how the First Spiritualist Temple conducts its
Sunday services. Some parts of this explanation are excerpted from What You've
Always Wanted to Know About Spiritualism, written by Rita Faubel.
Songs:
We sing to charge the air with vibrations or energy which the spirit people use to
manifest or communicate to us.
Songs are sung from our hymnals. Some songs are traditional spirituals, others
are specific to our religion. All of them serve to strengthen our connection to spirit.
Lecture:
Many of our speakers are mediums who lecture "inspirationally". This means that
they do not write their lectures beforehand, and may not even know the subject of
the lecture, but speak extemporaneously, guided by impressions received from a
spirit teacher. This is of particular value because information or comments can
be inserted into the lecture which apply to, or are needed by individuals who are
present at the service.
Occasionally, we have a medium who speaks in trance. When this occurs, the
medium has no knowledge of what is said because a spirit entity is actually giving
the lecture: i.e., supplying the mental power and using the medium's body.
Still other speakers are members of the church or visitors from other Spiritualist
churches. All speakers have their own method of delivering messages to Sunday
congregation.
The beauty of Sunday services at First Spiritualist Temple is that there is a new
speaker every Sunday. This allows a different message delivered from a different
perspective each week. This kind of diversity offers expanded understanding and
growth.
Spirit Messages:
At the end of the Lecture, mediums come to the platform and give messages to
the congregation from loved ones who have passed on to the other side.
Each medium works differently. Some receive their communications by seeing
symbols which they interpret. And some actually see or hear the spirit entities
(clairvoyance or clairaudience). Some "sense" the messages (clairsentience).
Some work on a "voice vibration" which means that they must hear the voice of the
person receiving the message (a simple "yes" is all that is necessary if you are
called upon by a medium wanting to give you a message).
When receiving a message it is helpful to the medium if you relax, put your feet flat
on the floor, and uncross your arms. In this way, the contact is made easier, and
the message clearer. The thoughts you project are important too. An inquiring
skepticism is perfectly natural, but negative and destructive thoughts destroy the
vibration and hinder the medium's reception of the communication waves.
Prayer:
We know the power of prayer. Prayer is thought in action. When we pray, a
channel of thought energy goes out into the atmosphere and is met by forces that
set about activating this thought into completion.
Healing:
Healing service is available at First Spiritualist Temple every Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
In order to benefit from and contribute to the healing action, place your feet flat on
the floor and your hands in your lap with palms upward. Thus the excess
chemical energies are more easily taken from you, and your hands are open to
receive the excess energy from others around you. Relax your mind and body,
take several deep breaths. Feel the power at work around you.
